Owedex vs Dentrix Ascend

Dentrix Ascend, from Henry Schein One, builds its revenue cycle tools into Ascend itself: claims, eligibility, ERA posting and reconciliation, and patient payments. Its July 16, 2026 announcement describes a roadmap of AI agents for the billing cycle, with the first parts live. Owedex works from the claims reports, insurer payment files and bank statements your office already has: it finds the money insurers still owe you, drafts the fix for you to approve, and follows each insurer dollar to the bank.

What Dentrix Ascend does well

  • Claims built in: “Create, validate, and submit claims in seconds with Ascend’s built-in eClaims workflow.” (source)
  • Posting: Ascend will “automatically post ERA payments.” (source)
  • Eligibility: “Eligibility Pro is live and verifying insurance automatically for Ascend customers.” (source)
  • One claims queue across locations: “Claims Manager gives billing teams an organization-wide dashboard and queue for every claim across every location.” (source)
  • Three-way matching “that reconciles the electronic remittance advice (ERA)” with the patient's account and the EFT deposit: “Henry Schein One has already deployed ERA reconciliation for select clients.” (source)

What only Owedex does

  • Paid less than you should be? The letter is drafted. Every payment line is checked against your PPO fee schedule or, where you have no contracted fee, against what that insurer usually pays you for the same code, and the request to reprocess is drafted for you to approve.
  • Money taken back, traced to the claim. Each take-back is traced to its claim and the earlier payment; for Texas offices Owedex counts the 180 days the insurer has to send written notice and the 45 days you have to object, and drafts the objection (Texas Insurance Code §1451.206, verify).
  • Paid, posted and in the bank: one page. For each insurer, what its payment files say it paid, what you marked posted and what reached your bank, with every difference named: not posted, card fees, short in the deposit, never arrived.
  • Card fees proven from your bank. Fee-free letter ready. Card fees are counted only when your bank deposits prove them, paper-check weeks from your own payments, and one click drafts the letter asking for fee-free direct deposit, citing Texas law for Texas offices (verify).
  • The owner's Monday 9 AM email. Every Monday at 9 AM office time the owner gets money recovered, what each insurer still owes, take-backs to object to and what's due this week, with the same numbers as the app and no patient information.
  • Letters that learn what wins at each insurer. Owedex learns from your own answered letters which evidence wins, per insurer and denial, and warns you before you send a letter without what it usually needs.

Questions

Is Owedex a Dentrix Ascend alternative?

Not for running the office. Dentrix Ascend's revenue tools live inside Ascend: claims, eligibility, ERA posting and reconciliation. Owedex is insurance-recovery software that works from your claims reports, insurer payment files and bank statements, and finds what insurers still owe you.

Where is Dentrix Ascend stronger?

Sending claims and checking eligibility inside the same system the office runs on, posting ERA payments automatically, and one claims queue across many locations for groups.

Where is Owedex different?

Checking every payment line against your PPO fee schedule or the insurer's own usual amount today, tracing money taken back with Texas's 180-day notice and 45-day objection window (verify), following each insurer dollar from payment to posted to bank, counting card fees your bank deposits prove, the owner's Monday 9 AM email, and letters that learn which evidence wins at each insurer.
